PGS releases first 3D data from Egypt deepwaters

The data collected includes both low and high-frequency information, which can help experts interpret structures and analyze rock properties in a whole new way


PGS has announced that the early-out data for the EGY23 Merneith & Luxor MultiClient programme is now ready for exploration enthusiasts to dive into! This data provides the very first 3D seismic data over the deepwaters area between the Nile delta and the Herodotus Basin.

Using Ramform vessels and GeoStreamer broadband technology, the 6,175 sq km EGY23 Merneith & Luxor survey was made possible. PGS teamed up with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) to make this happen.

The data collected includes both low and high-frequency information, which can help experts interpret structures and analyze rock properties in a whole new way. This could lead to some exciting discoveries.

This survey delved into an underexplored and unlicensed deepwater area, providing a significant upgrade from the 2D data that was previously available. It’s like unlocking a whole new world of possibilities.

One interesting find is a Messinian evaporite layer of varying thickness that stretches across most of the area. The survey is connected to the Kiwi-1 well, a rare find in this deepwater region. Experts believe that the primary targets will be presalt Oligo-Miocene structures with clastic reservoirs. Sounds like there’s a lot to uncover.
