African Drones taking flight in Kenya: The Elevate Africa UAS Summit 2024

The summit focused on how drones can transform sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and logistics

African drones are about to become a big deal, and Kenya is leading the way in this drone revolution. The global market for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) is expected to reach $43 billion by next year. The Elevate Africa UAS Summit 2024 brought together local and international industry players, next-generation drone pilots, and enthusiasts to talk about where drone technology is headed in Africa.

The Summit

The groundbreaking event, the first of its kind, was organized by Kenya Flying Labs, Africa Drone Forum, and Pravesh Global in partnership with KONZA Technopolis and the Kenya Civil Aviation. Over 500 participants from 21 countries, including Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, and Nigeria, attended the summit to explore the diverse and dynamic drone landscape of the continent.

Key Discussions

The summit focused on how drones can transform sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and logistics. Experts from the KCAA, industry leaders, and government officials shared their thoughts on drone regulation and technology in Africa. A special Women in Drones panel highlighted the importance of gender equality and the crucial role women play in advancing drone technology in Africa.

On the second day of the summit at Konza Technopolis, over 150 students from Kenyatta University, Alliance High School, and East Africa School of Aviation took part in a Drone Zone workshop. These young attendees asked meaningful questions and brought a fresh perspective to the conference.

The Future of Drones in Africa

Kenya is at the forefront of the drone ecosystem, with the KCAA playing a key role in ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. The UAS market is growing rapidly worldwide, and Africa, especially Kenya, is ready to embrace these new technologies.

Impact of Drones

Drones are making a big difference in Africa, from delivering medical supplies to remote areas to improving agricultural productivity. They are also helping with wildlife protection, mapping, and surveying. In agriculture, drones are revolutionizing precision farming, increasing yields, and reducing costs.

Looking Ahead

The African Drone Forum is a network of drone professionals on the continent, showcasing the innovative and empowering drone ecosystems in Africa. Konza Technopolis is leading the way in drone technology, hosting live drone flying demos to demonstrate the practical applications of drones.

The 2024 Elevate Africa UAS Summit was a success, thanks to sponsors and exhibitors who supported the event. Despite challenges like protests, the summit highlighted Kenya’s leadership in the drone industry and its commitment to innovation and diversity.
