Schneider Electric releases new Capabilities in EcoStruxure ADMS

Schneider Electric, the leader in powering digital transformation and grid modernization for utilities and communication providers, announced new capabilities in its EcoStruxure Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) as part of the ADMS 3.9 release.

EcoStruxure ADMS delivers unmatched outage response, optimized grid operations and distributed energy resource (DER) management. New features enable utilities to make a dramatic leap forward in their digital journey by providing smart grid capabilities and enhancements that make them more efficient and responsive and helps them overcome the many industry challenges they face.

Severe weather events caused by climate change are having significant impacts on utilities already challenged with grid upgrades, changing revenue models and cybersecurity threats. EcoStruxure ADMS delivers more tools for utilities’ digital transformation and for the mission of delivering safer, more reliable, and more efficient power. New capabilities include:

Making the grid more secure and efficient

• Greater total cost of ownership savings with automatic deployment and system administration, as well as optimized model build and model management.

• Stronger cybersecurity measures, including IEC 62443-4-1 compliant SDL and Privacy by Design.

• Better data streaming, such as feed analytics systems and extensible-ready real-time ETL platform.

Modernizing the grid

• The first ADMS to speak IEC 61850 (the backbone of the smart grid) natively to field devices from the control room – no need for additional protocol converters.

• Easier handling of IEDs from different vendors with different implementations.

• New Dynamic Grid Capacity Conservation App to improve network operations, prevent congestion and increase DERMS hosting capacity.

Improving operations and grid efficiency

• Smart, topology-based alarming for faster responses to critical events.

• On demand, advisory or auto-pilot Fire (major event) mitigation feature, enabling geo-assisted preparedness, mitigation and device control.

• EMS for the Future, a state forecasting and contingency analysis that alerts up to 24-hours ahead.

• New OMS in Study Mode for more accurate reporting; helps analyze what occurred in the field by comparing outages against network model and topology data.

“These new capabilities provide utilities with extraordinary new ways to build and manage a smarter grid,” said Vladislav Vrtunski, general manager at Schneider Electric. “The industry challenges are mounting, and we are committed to revolutionizing expectations of how an ADMS supports the transformation to a more modern, efficient and secure grid.”

Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure™ ADMS provides utilities with the most comprehensive network management solution, including monitoring, analysis, control, optimization, planning, and training tools that all function on a common representation of the entire electric distribution network. By merging distribution management (DMS), outage management (OMS), and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems into one secure, unified solution with more than 50 advanced functions, it can maximize the benefits from a growing foundation of intelligent grid devices, distributed renewable energy, advanced metering, and all things smart grid.
